SGPGIMS Introduces Robotic 3D Digital Microscope and 4K Endoscopy System, Enhancing Precision in Complex Head and Neck Surgeries

Lucknow: In a major technological advancement, the Department of Head and Neck Surgery at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) has introduced its first Robotic 3D Digital Microscope (3D Exoscope) and 4K Endoscopy System. The state-of-the-art equipment will enable surgeons to perform complex head and neck procedures with greater precision, safety, and enhanced visualization.

The advanced 3D Exoscope provides a high-definition, three-dimensional view of the surgical field, allowing surgeons to operate with superior depth perception and optical clarity. It also reduces surgeon fatigue, enables the entire operating team to view the procedure in real time, and serves as an effective teaching tool for resident doctors while strengthening clinical research.

Along with the new imaging systems, the department also inaugurated a new state-of-the-art Operation Theatre (OT). The facility is expected to reduce waiting time for patients requiring ear, nose, throat (ENT), and head and neck surgeries, thereby improving access to timely surgical care.

The new OT and advanced equipment were inaugurated by Padma Shri Prof. R.K. Dhiman, Director, SGPGIMS, in the presence of Dr. Devendra Gupta, Chief Medical Superintendent.

Prof. Amit Keshari, Head of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, described the 3D Exoscope as a game-changing technology for the specialty. He said it would significantly improve the safety and precision of delicate ear surgeries, lateral skull base procedures, and complex head and neck reconstructive operations.

Congratulating the department on the achievement, Prof. R.K. Dhiman appreciated the efforts of Prof. Amit Keshari, Dr. Indu Shukla (Associate Professor), Dr. Nazreen Hameed (Assistant Professor), Dr. Rudra Prakash, and Ms. Neelam Sachan, Assistant Nursing Superintendent and OT In-charge, for successfully operationalizing the new OT. He said the initiative marks another important step towards providing world-class surgical care and advancing medical education and research at SGPGIMS.
