Retzius-Sparing and Multiport Transvesical Robotic Radical Prostatectomy Giving Patients a New Lease of Life
Lucknow: Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow has made a significant breakthrough in the treatment of prostate cancer. The Department of Urology and Renal Transplantation has introduced advanced Retzius-Sparing and Multiport Transvesical Robotic Radical Prostatectomy techniques. These state-of-the-art procedures not only ensure effective cancer removal but also help patients return to normal life much sooner after surgery.
What are these techniques?
In the Retzius-Sparing technique, surgeons avoid operating through the Retzius space, located in the lower abdomen. This area contains delicate structures responsible for urinary continence and sexual function. By preserving these structures, patients regain normal lifestyle functions much earlier.
The Multiport Transvesical Robotic Radical Prostatectomy involves removing the prostate through the bladder using robotic technology. Multiple small ports are created, and highly precise robotic instruments are used to perform the surgery. This approach minimizes blood loss and speeds up recovery.
