thyroid medications should never be discontinued without medical advice

CME Organized at SGPGI on World Thyroid Day

Thyroid Hormone Imbalance Can Lead to Fatigue, Depression, and Infertility

The Department of Endocrinology at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), in collaboration with the College of Nursing, organized a comprehensive Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on the occasion of World Thyroid Day. The event was held at the Nursing College Auditorium located in the Advanced Diabetes Center.

The program commenced with a welcome address by the Head of Department, Prof. Dr. Subhash B. Yadav. During the event, Dr. Shivendra Verma, Dr. Bibhuti, and Prof. Vijay Lakshmi provided detailed insights into thyroid-related disorders. Expert sessions were conducted as part of the CME, where Dr. Ayushi Singhal, Dr. Prashant, Dr. Nirupama, and Dr. Sangeeta discussed topics such as hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, thyroid disorders during pregnancy, and neonatal screening.

Experts emphasized that thyroid medications should never be discontinued without medical advice. Similarly, the dosage of the medication should not be increased or decreased on one’s own.

Thyroid hormones, secreted by the thyroid gland, regulate metabolism, and their imbalance can lead to various health issues. Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism particularly affect women and pregnant women.

The event saw the special participation of SGPGI Director Prof. R.K. Dhiman, Dean Dr. Shaleen Kumar, and Principal of the Nursing College Dr. Radha K.
