15.3 percent (pre-diabetic) means can be a victim of diabetes anytime

The latest figures regarding the number of diabetes patients in the country are definitely shocking, but they should also be seen as a warning. Sanjay Gandhi PGI endocrinologist Prof. Sushil Gupta According to the latest study of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) published in the health journal 'Lancet', the number of diabetes patients in the country has crossed 100 million. Surprisingly, it has increased by 44 per cent within the last four years. What makes these statistics more serious is that the number of pre-diabetes cases is also not less. According to the latest survey, if 11.4 percent of the country's population is suffering from diabetes, then 15.3 percent people are in the pre-diabetes category.

, Those people are kept in the pre-diabetes category whose blood sugar level is higher than normal, but not high enough to be included in the category of type-2 diabetes. These are people who are suspected of being diabetic. Nothing can be said for sure whether a case of pre-diabetes will turn into diabetes or not, and if so, in how long, but experts generally believe that one-third of such cases turn into diabetes.

Surrey one-third of the cases remain in the pre-diabetes category while the last one-third get better with lifestyle changes and other such measures and return to normal condition. If even one-third of pre-diabetes cases convert into diabetes, then a serious challenge may arise on the health front in the next few years. Especially in states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, where there are four and three cases of pre-diabetes for every diabetic person, respectively. In these circumstances, especially there is a need to be prepared for situations like increase in the number of kidney patients. Many such patients require dialysis. Not only are such machines few and mostly confined to urban centres, but their high cost also puts them out of reach for most kidney patients.
