Device will reduce carbon dioxide in kidney failure patients

Foundation Day Celebration of PGI Nephrology Department

Device will reduce carbon dioxide in kidney failure patients

60 to 70 percent of patients admitted in ICU are at risk of acute kidney injury (AKI). Due to reduced kidney function, the amount of carbon dioxide in the body increases. Sanjay Gandhi PGI has started extracorporeal therapy to increase the amount of oxygen and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide. Under this therapy, a special device is installed which absorbs carbon dioxide from the blood. Earlier, ventilators were the only support to normalize the amount of carbon dioxide. To provide information about new technology, the Department of Nephrology organized a workshop on the occasion of Foundation Day celebration. Head of the department Prof. Narayan Prasad and Prof. Ravi Shankar Kushwaha said that due to increase in carbon dioxide, many types of problems increase along with carbon dioxide nacrosis.

Special cartridge will extract toxic elements during dialysis

In case of AKI Due to sepsis, diarrhea, irregular blood pressure, dialysis has to be done very slowly. If these patients have received such a cartridge for dialysis, it absorbs the toxic elements collected in the blood. Due to this, dialysis is proving to be very effective. Pro. Ravi Shankar Kushwaha told that 10 to 15 percent of patients in our institute come to emergency with AKI.

Pro. Narayan Prasad said that the Indian Society of Nephrology has decided to curb deaths due to AKI by 2025. At present, 60 to 70 percent of people admitted to ICU and 10 to 12 percent of people in the community are dying due to AKI. To create awareness about this, this year's theme has been kept on this. If treated quickly and correctly, AKI can be completely cured. If left untreated, AKI turns into CKD.

what is aki

Serum creatinine increased by 0.3 mg / dl from normal and If you are urinating less than 0.5 ml / kg / hour for 6 hour, it could be a symptom of AKI. These require immediate treatment. Acute kidney injury is a rapid loss of the kidneys' ability to remove waste and help balance fluids and electrolytes in the body. kidney function reduce within 2 days.

what is the reason

- Tubular necrosis, damage to the tubule cells of the kidney)

-Autoimmune disease

- blood clot (cholesterol emboli)

- Decreased blood flow due to very low blood pressure that may result from burns, dehydration, bleeding, injury, septic shock, serious illness, or surgery.

- Clot formation within the blood vessels of the kidney

-Infections such as acute pyelonephritis or septicemia

- Placental rupture or placenta previa during pregnancy

-Urinary tract obstruction

-Cocaine and heroin consumption

- Medicines including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), some antibiotics and blood pressure medicines, contrast (dyes), some cancer and HIV medicines
